Letters at Christmas

Letters at Christmas

Christmas always seems like the perfect time to connect with those we cherish. It’s a time for cards and letters. Letters filled with stories of impressive family achievements, lavish vacations, career advancements and...really bad rhymes! For lots of us Christmas is the only time of year that we actually send mail to our family and friends. Why? Because, Christmas is a time of sharing and connecting. Or is it? For many, the holidays can be quite complicated – filled with feelings of loneliness and disappointment and regret. So, what if we were honest? Instead of pretending life is idyllic and listing off family accomplishments, what if those letters we wrote and received delved deeper into what our lives are really like? What would our letters to each other say then? Would they tell how hurt and disillusioned we are sometimes? Would they admit that sometimes we just don’t get it? If we could write a letter to God, what would we say to Him? What would God’s letter say to us? In this series we explored these questions and sought to relate more deeply to God – and to each other.
